School extension to provide extra school places
Rushwick CE Primary School is increasing its pupil capacity thanks to a new extension that is currently being built.
The expansion is being overseen by Place Partnership, on behalf of Worcestershire County Council, and will involve the building of three new classrooms, a library, office accommodation as well as a wildlife pond, solar panels and a larger playground.
The school, in Upper Wick Lane, will go from 20 children per year group to 30.
Headteacher Geoff Jeffrey, said: “Having over £1.1m invested at Rushwick Primary School in the current financial climate is a major coup for the school and a testament to the hard work of our staff and pupils. The new facilities will provide fantastic accommodation and will mean that our school will be able to take more pupils in the near future.”
The extension, funded by Worcestershire County Council, will see the first phase completed during the summer break and the final stage during autumn. The school expansion is driven by demographic changes in the county and additional children arising from housing growth.
Project manager Mike Griffin from Place Partnership, said: “Our role is to oversee the design, planning and tendering stages as well as the works on site with project architects Jacobs UK and the contractor Interclass PLC.
“We’re delighted to be working with the school so that they are provided with accommodation and facilities which will benefit the local community for many years to come.”
Marcus Hart, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Education and Skills, said: "We are delighted to fund the extension of Rushwick CE Primary School, with the work being overseen by Place Partnership. The new facilities will provide a wonderful increase in space both for teaching and extra-curricular activities, and a 50% increase in pupil capacity. This will cater for increased demand for school places as a result of nearby housing growth, and ensure that local children have access to the best possible education."
